2 Weeks Old

Peyton is two weeks old today and what an amazing and crazy two weeks it has been. It amazes us how much more of her personality is coming out and how much she has changed in just these two weeks. She is such a joy and we are so blessed.

Here are some of the things we have learned in these past two weeks and some of her big developments:
  • She is getting more and more alert and is actually waking up for feedings as opposed to having to be forced to wake up. Even though she wakes up for feedings she is sleeping 4 to 5 hours at night which is great! We are still working on staying awake to feed on both sides consistently which can be frustrating.
  • She is making so many new noises which are a blast to hear especially the ones she makes when she is dreaming
  • Now that she is more alert during the day we have been doing tummy time more frequently and she is a pro at moving her head side to side especially in response to my voice and is getting better at holding her head up
  • Peyton is tiny! Newborn clothes don't fit her and she gets lost in everything she owns. She only has a couple of good fitting outfits which means frequent laundry. I am thinking about buying some more smaller clothes to help with the laundry issue
  • We have learned that she tends to go finish her business once you have opened and removed the diaper. Make sure you have the clean diaper under the dirty one for quick application or you risk having to change her outfit and clean up a big mess.
  • Breast feeding is tiring and takes extreme patience to feed someone every 2-3 hours especially when feedings can take about an hour leaving you 1-2 hours not having to feed.
  • Peyton loves classical music and also loves to have worship songs sung to her. She listens so intently whenever I sing to her or she is listening to her songs
As an update, Peyton got to meet Grandpa Hill last night which was so much fun. It was great
to finally see my dad and to see him with his grand daughter! Also, my doctor's appointment went well today and my incision is healing wonderfully. My next appointment is in four weeks (October 16) which will be my final appointment and hopefully then I can get the all clear to resume running. Finally, today we took Peyton for her first long walk in the stroller. We went for a quick walk the other day with the car seat attachment on the stroller but tonight we just placed her in the stroller and went for a walk to my parents house and back (a little less than 1.5 miles). It felt so good to get some exercise and she did great. Hopefully the cooler weather holds and we can go for more walks until I can start running again.

These next couple of weeks will be a little bit of a change for all of us as John returns to work on Monday and it will just be me and Peyton. Until now, all I have had to do is care for Peyton and John has done all the house work etc which has been amazing. Hopefully I can adjust to taking more of the house hold responsibilities back on and John can adjust to a healthy work and home life balance.
